June 19

Welcome to my June blog.

As Harrogate Hospital Radio is a self-funding organisation, we have to raise sufficient funds every year to operate here within the hospital.

On Monday, May 20, Ellie Jackson, Mike Steeton and myself gave a talk to The Nidderdale Society, at Dacre Village Hall, about Harrogate Hospital Radio, its history and the future, and how we operate and entertain the patients of Harrogate District Hospital.

This was the first time I had been involved in participating in a “talk” at an event, and I really enjoyed it.

If you, or someone you know, would like members of HHR to attend an event and give a talk on our history, present and future, then please do not hesitate to contact me or anyone of our members. Details of how to contact us can be found in this guide and on our website at www.harrogatehospitalradio.org.uk

All we ask for is a donation as a fee.

Here are some highlights coming up in June. We have some fundraising with Ellie. We have a coffee morning on June 1 at St Cuthbert’s Church, Pateley Bridge. And on June 3 we have a cake stall in Harrogate District Hospital’s reception area.

All the above details can be found on the fundraising section of our website.

Harrogate Hospital Radio will be bringing “the outside in” live from the Knaresborough Bed Race on June 8, and the It’s a Knockout at Ashville College on June 15.

New shows this month are as follows:

Friday’s G&T with Adele and Jonathan; 6pm till 8pm

Adele ‘G’ Guillen and Jonathan ‘T’ Tullett are teaming up to throw the ultimate pre-weekend party and you’re all on the VIP list! Join us as we celebrate the week with comical observations, mix up the best tunes and play some rather unique party games. Start your weekend off right with chat, fun, laughter and music – we’ll drink to that!

Ellie Jackson moves from Sunday evening to Saturday with Solid Gold Sixties with Ellie at 9pm

Brand new for Sunday with our latest recruit Ian Smith.

Ian presents The Soul Sound; 8pm till 10pm.

Ian presents a Classic Soul show for a Sunday Night. It promises to be a soul jamboree with classic soul hits, Motown, Stax, Philly, Northern and Funk.

Each week there will be a featured artist and a look at soul hits in the charts from the corresponding week in years gone by. ’Soul Origins’ will feature a hit record and then the forgotten soul original.

Other changes;

Monday 9am, Roundabout Newspaper (moved from 8pm Sunday)

Wednesday 1pm, Roundabout Magazine (moved from 9am Monday)
