BBC Look North 40th Anniversary Visit….

Harrogate Hospital Radio’s 40th birthday celebrations have been featured on the BBC’s regional flagship news programme, Look North.

Reporter Ian White, a former hospital radio presenter himself, was contacted by the charity broadcaster’s chairman, Mark Oldfield, to enquire if they would be interested in visiting the studio.

Ian, together with a cameraman, came to the studio where he met and spoke with members of the society, including it is oldest member, 93-year-old Harry Lewis, its longest serving member, Ian Wighton, and other volunteers who present shows and collect requests.

In addition to being shown around the charity’s two broadcast studios, Ian was taken on to a ward and interviewed patients who stays have been made more enjoyable thanks to the service provided by hospital radio service

Hospital Radio Chairman Mark Oldfield said: “We were absolutely delighted when Look North said they would be interested in filming a piece to mark our 40th anniversary.

“What went out that evening was a great piece. It was fantastic publicity for the society and a wonderful endorsement of the service we provide – and have provided for the past 40 years. I’d like to say big thank you to Ian and the Look North team for making the trip to Harrogate and recording this superb news item.”
