Harrogate Hospital Radio Awarded Duke Of York Community Initiative

Harrogate Hospital Radio has been awarded a prestigious regional
community award.
The charity broadcaster - which has been “on
air” since 1977 - is the latest recipient of the Duke of York
Community Initiative Award.
HRH The Duke of York founded the
initiative in 1997, primarily and actively encouraging the development
of community spirit, individual leadership and initiatives in
Yorkshire and the Humber.
The initiative supports projects
through a dedicated award scheme and recognition of excellence. Its
principal aim is to foster and increase community spirit throughout
the four Yorkshire counties and is only awarded to community schemes
of outstanding merit which meet the stiff assessment criteria.
Harrogate Hospital Radio Chairman Mark Bexley said: “Being awarded the
Duke of York Community Initiative is a fantastic achievement and a
real honour for the Society and the members who give their time
freely.
“We are very proud of the work we do within Harrogate
District Hospital and this award is a marvelous seal of approval for
our organisation.”
Mr Bexley added: “Our application to be
considered for the award was rigorously scrutinised, and two of the
organisation’s assessors came to the studios and spent several hours
interviewing a number of our members.
“Now that we are member
of this exclusive ‘club’ we will do everything in our powers to ensure
we stay a part of it.”
Kevin Sharp, Chairman of the Duke of
York Community Initiative Award scheme, said: “On behalf of myself and
the Assessment Panel, I would like to offer our congratulations in
what is a great achievement."
Harrogate Hospital Radio will
receive its award from Prince Andrew at a ceremony to be held in the
region later this year.
